We’re an Australian independent publisher making illustrated books and reading adventures for curious young minds.
Our story
Our name holds the two things we hope every book gives a child: a light to guide them, and room to grow.
A lantern is light and goodness in the dark. It stands for hope, and for the curiosity that leads us to take the next step, and then the next. Every Lantern & Leaf story is a little lantern, lighting the way to somewhere wonderful.
A leaf may be small, but it carries the strength of the whole tree. It stands for growth, resilience and transformation: the way our characters change through courage and kindness, and the way every reader grows, one page at a time.
A note from the author
I wrote The Explorer’s Mark for every child who has ever noticed something nobody else did: a strange shadow, a crack in the footpath, a door that definitely wasn’t there yesterday.
I wanted to write a story you could be part of, not just read. So every now and then, Max and Pip stop and ask for your help: to crack a code, solve a puzzle or help a friend in trouble. And right at the heart of the adventure, you create an Explorer’s Mark that belongs to nobody but you.
My very first readers were my own children, who told me (very honestly) which jokes worked and which ones Pip should never say again.
I hope this book makes you laugh, makes you wonder, and makes you a little braver. And I hope you never stop noticing doors.
