The Explorer’s Riddle

Competition terms and conditions

1. The promoter

The promoter is ElevateAI Solutions Pty Ltd (ACN 695 773 338) trading as Lantern & Leaf Publishing, Sydney, Australia (“we”, “us”).

2. A game of skill

The Explorer’s Riddle is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in deciding the winner. There is no random draw at any stage, including to break a tie.

3. When

The competition opens at 9am on 15 November 2026 and closes at 11:59pm on 31 March 2027 (Sydney time). Entries received outside these times won’t be accepted.

4. Who can enter

  • The competition is open to explorers of all ages living in Australia.
  • Explorers under 18 must be entered by their parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on their behalf.
  • One entry per explorer.
  • Employees of the promoter and their immediate families can’t enter.

5. How to enter

  1. Find the answer to The Explorer’s Riddle, hidden somewhere in The Explorer’s Mark, Book One: The Secret Beneath Our Feet.
  2. Answer the Bonus Explorer Challenge in 25 words or fewer: If you had your own Explorer’s Mark, where would you want the map to take you, and why?
  3. Submit the riddle answer, the Bonus Explorer Challenge answer, the explorer’s first name and state, and a contact name and email using the entry form on this website. Explorers under 18 are entered by a parent or guardian.

Entering is free and no purchase is necessary. Entries using a library or borrowed copy of the book are welcome. Answers must be the explorer’s own original work.

6. Judging

Entries with the correct riddle answer will be judged by an independent judge appointed by the promoter, on or before 14 April 2027, in Sydney, NSW. The Bonus Explorer Challenge answers will be judged on imagination, originality and heart. The best entry wins. If entries are equally good, the judge will judge them again until one is chosen. The judge’s decision is final, and we can’t enter into correspondence about it.

7. The prize

One winner will receive a personalised printed copy of The Explorer’s Mark, Book One, with the winner as the hero, signed by the author, Priscilla Rose. The prize is worth approximately A$59.99, including postage. It can’t be exchanged for cash or transferred, and will be posted to an Australian address.

8. Telling the winner

We’ll email the winner (or their parent or guardian) within 7 days of judging. If we don’t hear back within 28 days, the next best entry will win. With the parent’s permission, we may share the winner’s first name, state and winning answer on our website and social media. We’ll never share a surname, photo or school.

9. Privacy

We use entry details only to run this competition and contact the winner. Entries are deleted 90 days after the winner is announced. Read our privacy policy.

10. The fine print

We can disqualify entries that break these terms or aren’t the child’s own work. If something outside our control affects the competition, we may change, pause or cancel it, telling entrants on this page. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
