Our privacy policy
Last updated 15 November 2026.
Lantern & Leaf Publishing is an imprint of ElevateAI Solutions Pty Ltd (ACN 695 773 338), based in Sydney, Australia (“we”, “us”). We make books for children, so we take extra care with children’s information. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and how long we keep it. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles, and we have built our personalised books to the standard of the draft Children’s Online Privacy Code.
The short version
- Only grown ups (18 or over) can order or contact us, and explorers under 18 enter the competition through a parent or guardian. Children never need an account.
- For a personalised book we ask for the child’s first name, their chosen look and their Explorer’s Mark, and nothing more about them.
- We use those details only to make the book, then delete them after delivery.
- We never sell personal information and never market to children.
What we collect
When you contact us: your name, email address and message.
When you order a personalised book: your email address; your child’s first name or nickname; the look you choose (boy or girl, hair type, skin tone and hair colour); your child’s Explorer’s Mark, either a symbol you pick or a photo of a drawing you upload; and, for printed books, a shipping name, address and phone number. Payment card details are entered directly with our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store them.
When you enter The Explorer’s Riddle: a contact name and email address, the explorer’s first name and state, and their answers. See the competition terms.
If you join our mailing list: your email address. Joining is always optional, is a separate box that is never ticked for you, and is for grown ups only.
When you visit the website: our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site running and secure. We don’t use advertising trackers, and there are no tracking pixels on our personalisation pages.
How we use it
To reply to you, to make and deliver your book, to process payment, refunds and reprints, to run the competition, to send emails you’ve asked for, and to meet our legal obligations (for example, keeping tax records).
Children’s details
- A child’s name never appears in our web addresses, logs, analytics or email subject lines.
- Unpaid checkouts are deleted within 24 hours, and uploaded drawings that don’t become an order are deleted within 24 hours.
- After delivery, the child’s name, look, Mark and any uploaded drawing are deleted 30 days after a PDF is delivered, or 30 days after a printed book ships, so we can help with a reprint if something goes wrong.
- Your order record (your email, what you bought and what you paid) is kept for tax and accounting, with the child’s details removed.
- You can ask us to delete your child’s details at any time before then, using the self service page in the order email or by writing to us.
If you choose to keep your child’s Explorer code for Book Two, it holds no personal information. It simply remembers their look and Mark choices.
Who we share it with
Only the services we need to make and deliver your order, and only what each one needs: Stripe (payments), our print and delivery partner Lulu (printed books), Resend (sending emails) and our website hosts. Some of these providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. We choose providers with strong security and privacy commitments.
Keeping it safe
We use secure connections, limit who can see personal information, record any time a child’s name is viewed by our team, and delete what we no longer need.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or unsubscribe from emails at any time. Write to hello@lanternandleafpublishing.com.au and we’ll respond within 30 days.
Questions or complaints
Please contact us first at hello@lanternandleafpublishing.com.au and we’ll do our best to fix it. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top.
